Islamic Jihad Commander Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Gaza

Israeli warplanes destroyed about nine miles of the Hamas ‘Metro’ terror tunnel system overnight and the homes of nine Hamas commanders in Gaza Strip Monday, also killing a top Islamic Jihad leader, New York Post learns.

The IDF announced that it had assassinated Hussam Abu Harbeed, who commanded Islamic Jihad’s northern Gaza division for almost 15 years and was behind attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.

There was no immediate confirmation of the assassination from Islamic Jihad or its armed wing, the al-Quds Brigades.

Harbeed’s killing is likely to draw a fierce response from the militant group as Israel’s fighting also rages on with the enclave’s Islamist rulers Hamas.
