Biden administration’s was faced with strong criticism by the Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, over the bad handling of the military conflict between Hamas militants and the state of Israel, Fox News informed.
Ocasio-Cortez compared the military conflict and conditions of Palestinians, with the situation at the southern border and the condition with migrant children.
The progressive Democrat gave a speech on the House floor, saying that US needs to immediately take a stance in this brutal injustice and violations of human rights as well as acknowledge the imbalance of power between the Palestinians and Israel. She and other Democratic members of the group called “Squad”, pointed their accusations towards Biden, claiming that the country is doing nothing to stop the human rights violations and is silently supporting Israel.
Ocasio-Cortez also emphasized that courage is needed in this situations and that she is wondering whether the reason for this silence on the children incarceration happening in the moment in Palestine, will force the administration to look closely at the border camps in the US and the situation with the migrant children.
The escalation of the conflict came after Hamas earlier this week started firing rockets towards Jerusalem, causing the Israeli military to counter attack. The international community immediately called for de-escalation of violence but seems like the conflict has only worsened.
President Joe Biden confirmed US support for Israel while talking on the phone with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu this week. In another appearance, Biden said that Israel has the right to use defense systems in order to counter the rockets Hamas is firing on their territory.
