Ron Klain, the White House Chief of Staff on Sunday said that President Joe Biden should not be accused of the surge in unaccompanied minors that are crossing the southern border, Fox News informed.

Klain underlined that Joe Biden speech had little to do with the surge of unaccompanied minors aged 6, 7, who are sent on this dangerous path due to the terrible conditions in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Klain also stated that they are devoted to reuniting these children with their families once they arrive in the US. He added that the number of children caught at the border is down 84 percent and that they are making great progress in dealing with this issue.

According to Customs and Border Protection projections, 184,000 unaccompanied minors could arrive at the southern border in fiscal year 2021.

The Biden administration’s weekly budget to accomodate more than 16,000 migrant children amounts to $60 million. The yearly total is $3.1 billion and is mainly for the children’s care in institutions and facilities run by the HHS (Department of Health and Human Services), after Border Patrol transfers the kids. According to Washington Post analysis, these costs are most probably going to increase in the coming months.

In an interview, Biden emphasized that his administration has introduced a full control of the southern border surge, accusing former President Donald Trump and his administration of creating this crisis.

Biden halted the building of the southern border wall, put an end to the Migrant Protection Protocols and narrowed the enforcement priorities of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
