Mitch McConnell Hasn’t Spoken to Biden Since Inauguration

The ports and waterways funding comes from President Joe Biden's infrastructure plan, which was signed into law by Congress last year

The Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday said that since the inauguration, he barely spoke with President Biden, pointing the finger that the Democrats are pushing the White House to the “hard left,” reported The Hill.

“I don’t believe I’ve spoken with him since he was sworn in,” said McConnell in a Fox News interview, and he also said that he is yet to be invited to the White House.

McConnell’s spokespersons didn’t rush to respond to comment requests but explained to the reporters that he has spoken to Biden since Jan. 20, but they didn’t discuss the agenda.

On February 2, McConnell said to the reporters that they had spoken about other topics like the budget process related to the COVID-19 relief bill and Burma. Despite the Republican objections, Democrats used a special process called budget reconciliation to pass the $1.9 trillion relief bill.

“Well the president called me on two things: Burma was one of them, the other was… the budget process and COVID relief,” said McConnell.

McConnell took advantage of the Fox News interview to make his point that he doesn’t believe that the president is bipartisan, even though he worked with him in the Senate.

“I haven’t been invited to the White House, so far this administration is not interested in doing anything on a bipartisan basis in the political center,” said McConnell.

“There’s been no efforts whatsoever by the president or the administration to do anything n the political center. It’s been trying to jam through everything on the hard left,” he added.

The relationship between Biden and McConnell was considered to be crucial for passing some crucial legislation through the Senate, as they were able to cut some deals during the Obama administration. Most legislation still needs 60 votes to pass the Senate.
