President Donald Trump used Twitter once again to defend his position on the U.S. intelligence agencies and to question the latest reports of the Russian meddling in the upcoming presidential election.
He said that the fact that he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin more than the American intelligence officials is not true as he explained why for some people that fact is acceptable. It is because he bashed several former U.S. intelligence officials.
“If the first people you met from so-called American Intelligence were Dirty Cops who have now proven to be sleazebags at the highest level like James Comey, proven liar James Clapper, & perhaps the lowest of them all, Wacko John Brennan who headed the CIA, you could perhaps understand my reluctance to embrace!’’ Trump tweeted.
The President was criticized by the American public as he tried to slam several key U.S. intelligence figures for their findings of Russian meddling in the previous election. Two years ago, he held a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which both of them denied those reports.
According to The Hill, the President’s distrust of the intelligence community has been put back in the spotlight after the U.S. Counterintelligence official announced last week a series of foreign threats facing the 2020 presidential election, including that Russia is using a range of measures to “primarily denigrate’’ former Vice President Joe Biden in his campaign for the White House. The report also found that China prefers that Trump fails in his reelection bid and that Iran is seeking to sow chaos.
Trump was asked about the recent report, to which he said that Russia would prefer to see his rival Joe Biden in the oval office.
“You know what I’m telling you? I’ll tell you who’s meddling in our elections. The Democrats are meddling by wanting and insisting on sending mail-in ballots where there’s corruption all over the place,’’ said Trump, dodging a reporter’s question if he brought up an election meddling with Vladimir Putin.
