Tensions in Hong Kong continue to escalate as Chinese President Xi Jinping said this weekend that any effort to split with China will result in bodies smashed and bones ground to powder. He said this on his visit to Nepal, according to the Hong Kong Press.
‘’Anyone who attempts to split any region from China will perish, with their bodies smashed and bones ground to powder. Any external forces that support the splitting of China can only be regarded as delusional by the Chinese people,’’ said Xi.
According to The Hill, Xi did not name any specific territories or countries in his comments, but they came at a time as Hong Kong protests against mainland China rule have become more violent.
Hong Kong police said the violence was at a life-threatening level after a bomb went off and a police officer was stabbed on Sunday. The protests originally erupted four months ago over a now-discarded bill allowing a suspect to be extradited to China for trial.
Chinese officials blamed external forces for the Hong Kong violent protests but the groups that protest denied these accusations.
Several Congressmen from the United States were very loud, criticizing the Chinese government for the not so Democratic measures. President Trump, on the other hand, has been pretty silent on the subject.
