Anderson Cooper Criticizes Trump over Putin

On Friday, Anderson Cooper criticized President Donald Trump after Trump joked with Vladimir Putin about the Russian election in the American presidential election and gave praise to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as he was talking about Trump’s actions at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan when Trump was asked about the interference of Russia in the election by the reporters.

“Until today, the president has never actually shared a laugh with Putin about election interference, at least publicly. Today, this is what happened when asked if he would tell Putin not to interfere in the next election. Trump was in Japan, ostensibly fighting for U.S. interests but apparently does not consider election security one of them,’’ said Cooper.

The jokes with Putin were not the only reason why Cooper criticized the president, as Trump was praising the Saudi Crown Prince as a friend of his even though bin Salman does not have a good reputation among American lawmakers.

According to The Hill, the President did not respond to shouted questions from reporters about whether he would confront the crown prince about the killing of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi. U.S. lawmakers and international officials have said that the crown prince directed the killing of the journalist, who resided in Virginia.

“When it comes to dictators, President Trump is all praise,” said Cooper.

Trump and Putin had a meeting at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan on Friday. During the meeting, Trump was asked by the reporters whether he would urge Russia not to interfere in the U.S. elections next year to which Trump replied:

“Yes, of course, I will. Don’t meddle in the election, please. Don’t meddle in the election.’’ Putin replied with a smile on his face.
