President Donald Trump on Tuesday bashed the leak of the almost 50 questions that Special Counsel Robert Mueller plans to ask him as part of the investigation into Russia’s election meddling and possible collusion with Trump’s campaign.
The New York Times on Monday published a list of questions Mueller’s team have prepared for the President.
“So disgraceful that the questions concerning the Russian Witch Hunt were ‘leaked’ to the media. No questions on Collusion,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “It would seem very hard to obstruct justice for a crime that never happened!”
Оn Monday, the Times wrote that Mueller’s investigators read the questions to Trump’s lawyers who then made them into a list. It added that it had obtained the document from a person outside Trump’s legal team.
Trump’s lawyers met with Mueller last week to discuss a possible interview with the President.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that it could not confirm the published accounts because representatives for Mueller’s office declined to comment and Jay Sekulow, Trump’s lawyer, also had no comment.
The Times reported that according to the obtained document there are questions on Trump’s ties to Russia as an effort for the investigators to determine whether the President may have unlawfully tried to obstruct the investigation.
Professor Andrew Wright, who was part of Former President Barack Obama’s administration, said that it is hard to know who would have leaked the questions and why.
“It’s hard for me to imagine it’s coming from Mueller’s team. And it’s kind of a ham-handed effort if it’s someone who’s trying to help the President,” he said.
U.S. intelligence agencies confirmed Russia still denies interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. President Trump has also repeatedly denied that there was any collusion between his campaign and Moscow.
