Trump Attacks Senator Warner for Trying to Contact Christopher Steele

President Donald Trump once again took to Twitter to attack a Democrat in order to undermine the investigation into a possible collusion between his administration and Russia during the 2016 presidential elections.

In a tweet, President Trump condemned Virgina Senator Mark Warner for attempting to set a meeting with the author of the controversial dossier linking Trump to Russia.

“Wow! -Senator Mark Warner got caught having extensive contact with a lobbyist for a Russian oligarch,” Trump tweeted. “Warner did not want a ‘paper trail’ on a ‘private’ meeting (in London) he requested with Steele of fraudulent Dossier fame. All tied into Crooked Hillary.”

Trump’s tweet comes after Fox News reported earlier in the evening that Warner had “extensive contact” last year with lobbyist Adam Waldman, whose firm reportedly also has ties to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Warner, as the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, wanted to establish contact with the author of the dossier, Christopher Steele, in order to obtain additional information that would help the Senate panel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Fox News also reported that Warner exchanged text messages with Waldman, who worked as a lobbyist for a Russian oligarch, about making contact with Steele.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who is also part of the Intelligence Committee, dismissed the report adding that Warner “fully disclosed” to the committee his attempt to contact the former British spy and added that the whole process had “zero impact” on the committee’s investigation.

Regarding the Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 elections, several panels were opened, including Mueller’s investigation.

According to The Hill, Warner said in January that “extraordinarily important” new documents had been obtained by the committee in its ongoing probe.

“We’ve had new information that raises more questions,” he said last month.
