Representative Nadler: Congress Needs to Make Resolution Censoring President Donald Trump

Democratic Representative for New York, Jerrold Nadler on Monday said that Congress needs to make a resolution censoring President Donald Trump for the racist remarks he made about Haiti and African countries in order to put on record that United States don’t approve racism, and that Trump is not speaking on behalf of the people.

“The goal is to put the Congress of the United States on record that we don’t approve of racism and that the president, when he makes these kinds of racist remarks, he’s not speaking for the people of the United States,” Nadler told CNN’s “New Day” host.

The Hill reported that Nadler and Representative Cedric Richmond, who is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, on Friday said that they would unveil the resolution to censor Trump over comments that he reportedly made disparaging individuals from Haiti and other African countries during a closed-door meeting with lawmakers.

“These remarks have compelled us to prepare a resolution of censure with our colleagues next week, to condemn President Trump for his racist statements,” the two congressmen wrote.

“This censure resolution is important because America is a beacon of hope. We have to show the world that this president does not represent the real feelings of most of the American people which is part of the reason why he lost the popular vote”

On Sunday Trump denied that he is a racist, but neither he, nor the White House has denied the use of the word “shithole”.

“What he was clearly saying was, we don’t want black or brown people, we want white people coming here. And that’s straight racism,” Nadler commented.

Nadler, who represents more Jews than any other member of the House, was recently appointed to the top Democratic spot on the House Judiciary Committee, following the resignation of Congressman John Conyers.
