David Jolly: Trump’s Mental Stability Is ‘Grave Conversation’

David Jolly, a former Republican Representative, said this Monday in an interview on MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” that the national discussion about President Donald Trump’s mental stability is a “grave conversation” that is “challenging for the country.”

“This is a very grave conversation. It has been over 30 years since this nation had a conversation about whether or not our president was fit to serve,” Jolly said to the host of the show.

This comes after the new White House tell-all by Michael Wolff, titled, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” which claimed that “every“ White House staff questions the president’s mental health. In his own defense, Trump immediately responded by tweeting that he is a “very stable genius,” further fueling the discussion, The Hill Reports.

“There’s an axiom in politics … if you’re explaining, you ain’t campaigning. If you are talking about the president’s mental fitness, you are not on message regarding his agenda nor the interest of the country,” he told Nicole Wallace the host of the show.

David Jolly lost his reelection in November to the former Governor Charlie Crist. Jolly regularly criticizes Trump for showing “risky behavior,” complaining about GOP lawmakers, and for creating chaos in the Republican Party.

In October, Jolly said that he prefered that the Democrats take the House in the midterm elections in order to serve as a great check against the president’s power.

“There is no discernible Republican ideological agenda that is worth fighting for right now,” the former GOP lawmaker said.

“But we do know that we have a president who very well might put this nation at risk, and this Republican Congress has done nothing to check his power. Democrats could [be a check], and we might be better off as a republic if they take the House in 2018,” Jolly added.

This Sunday Jolly said on Twitter that he will vote for Oprah Winfrey if she ran in 2020 over Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
