An American flag at a high school in Southwest Utah was destroyed and replaced with an ISIS flag on Thursday, Fox News informed. The incident happened at Hurricane High School, in the Washington County School District. According to the police, an unknown person took down the flag and replaced it with another one that looked like a flag used by the terrorist group.
The American flag was torn to shreds at the scene and the words “ISIS is comi” had been spray-painted on a wall on the school’s east side. Investigators believe that the vandal did not get the chance to finish the word “coming” and left it saying “comi”. The authorities do not know whether the person that did all of this was a student or someone from outside the community, Ken Thompson, a spokesman for Hurricane Police Department, said.
“Most likely somebody else knows…other than just the person who did it. Officers have received tips this morning and they’re following those leads and so far they haven’t generated a credible lead but tips can help us out a lot,” he explained.
Additional officers were sent to the school to reassure students and faculty of their safety. School employees replaced the ISIS flag with a new American flag and removed the graffiti, authorities stated. Images of the ISIS flag were sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
“Based on information we received from the FBI we do not believe this act was perpetrated by someone linked to the Islamic State. This investigation is ongoing and investigators will continue to follow-up on leads,” Hurricane Police Department said in a statement.
No arrest has been made so far, KUTV reported.
