President Donald Trump regularly uses Twitter as an official media to announce new policies, mock his adversaries, or complicate diplomatic relations with countries like North Korea. Trump’s Twitter account @realDonaldTrump has 47.2 million users.
Trump praises the impact of his postings on Twitter, saying that he requires social media in order to communicate with voters because according to him now is the period of fake news.
“If I don’t have that form of communication I can’t defend myself,” Trump said in an interview with Britain’s ITV channel broadcast on Sunday.
“I get a lot of fake news, a lot of news that is very false or made up,” he added.
He noted that it is a crazy situation that so many people in the world are waiting for his tweets, which he writes himself, sometimes even from his bed.
When asked if while laying in bed with his phone, he is thinking of how to wind people up, Trump responded: “Well, perhaps sometimes in bed, perhaps sometimes at breakfast or lunch or whatever, but generally speaking during the early morning, or during the evening I can do whatever, but I am very busy during the day, very long hours. I am busy.”
“I will sometimes just dictate out something really quickly and give it to one of my people to put it on,” he commented.
Reuters reports that when asked about eating burgers and drinking Coke, Trump said: “I eat fine food, really from some of the finest chefs in the world, I eat healthy food, I also have some of that food on occasion… I think I eat actually quite well.”
Trump added the he was very popular in Britain, in spite of the fact that dozen British politicians wanted to ban him from visiting the United Kingdom. More than 1.86 million people have signed a official government petition asking for Trump not to be allowed to enter the UK, as long he is president.
“I get so much fan mail from people in your country – they love my sense of security, they love what I am saying about many different things,” Trump said.
