Trump Appointee Fired Because of Controversial Resume

A top appointee in the White House’s drug policy office will step down from his position at the end of the month.

The 24-year-old Taylor Weyeneth who was promoted last summer to be White House liaison to the Office of National Drug Control Policy will resign as result of the controversy in his previous work experience.

According to The Hill, after Weyeneth graduated from college in May 2016, Weyeneth worked as a paid member of the Trump campaign, then as a volunteer for the Trump transition. He then rose to the top of the drug policy office after a series of higher level departures. The drug office coordinates anti-drug initiatives at various federal agencies, including President Trump’s initiative to combat the opioid epidemic.

Earlier this week, The Washington Post said that Weyeneth lost his job as a legal assistant due to failing to show up to work.

“We were very disappointed in what happened,” his partner Brian O’Dwyer said to the Post.

The Hill reports that Weyeneth’s résumé submitted to the government initially said he had worked at the firm until April 2016. An administration official said the résumé was changed to correct the errors. Weyeneth previously worked in Trump’s presidential campaign as a paid member, as well as volunteering during the presidential transition.

Meanwhile, a White House official said that Weyeneth will return to work for the administration, noting that he primarily will be doing administrative work. The official told the Post that he had “assumed additional duties and an additional title following staff openings.”

Last year, several political appointees assigned to the drug policy office left, resulting in Weyeneth being promoted to deputy chief of staff in July, the Post reported, citing his LinkedIn page.

He will remain in his position as deputy chief of staff as officials search for a replacement, according to the Post.
