President Donald Trump blamed Samsung on Twitter for the thousands of missing text messages between two FBI agents that have been the focus of Republicans who are trying to undermine FBI’s integrity.
“Where are the 50,000 important text messages between FBI lovers Lisa Page and Peter Strzok? Blaming Samsung!” Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
Republicans have said the texts, which referred to Trump as an “idiot” and a “loathsome human,” raised concerns the FBI is biased against Trump and may have given Clinton favorable treatment by deciding not to recommend criminal charges regarding the investigation into her use of a private email system while she was secretary of state.
FBI reported that the messages were not saved as a result of a glitch in the software of several Samsung 5 phones. Apparently, the software glitch happened at the most sensitive time.
On Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that the Justice Department chief inspector general is reviewing how the messages were not retained and if there is a possibility of them being recovered.
According to The Hill, Trump’s tweets came after Fox News host Sean Hannity addressed the issue on his Tuesday night show, though it is unclear if that is what prompted him to tweet. Trump is known to be an avid watcher of Fox News and often comments on issues shortly after they are addressed on air.
Both Page and Strzok, apart from being part of the Clinton investigation, were also assigned for a short period of time to special counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation into possible Russian interference during the election and collusion between Russia and Trump’s campaign.
Strzok was removed last summer from Mueller’s Russia probe after it was discovered that he and Page had exchanged anti-Trump messages.
