Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz is being challenged by a Texas Democrat in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections. The Democrat party representative said on Thursday that he has no idea on “what to believe” regarding the plans of President Donald Trump to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
In an interview for CNN’s show “New Day,” O’Rourke commented on the wall issue.
“Well I don’t know what to believe because there have been so many different stories from this President about what he means when he talks about a wall that can stretch from Brownsville 2000 miles to San Diego,” O’Rourke said.
“Thirty feet tall, pure concrete, we’ve heard in the past,” he then added.
Since the election campaign in 2016, President Trump has promised that a border wall will be built, a signature promise and a turning point in his presidential campaign.
The Hill reports that the President insisted that the border wall with Mexico be attached to any deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Democrats, however, have resisted funding a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Texas Democrat O’Rourke who is a representative of the sixth Congressional district in Texas voiced his opinion in saying that El Paso does not need any kind of a wall.
“We are long past the point of diminishing returns,” O’Rourke commented.
“Instead, we need to focus on the business before us, including ensuring that those 800,000 Dreamers are able to stay and flourish in this country,” he then added, trying to hint to the young immigrants that are brought in the U.S. illegally as children, but now are being protected by the DACA program that was introduced by the Obama administration.
