The United States and South Korea launched a large-scale joint aerial drills, a few days after North Korea said that it had tested the most advanced missile. The annual drill is called Vigilant Ace, it will run until Friday and more than 230 aircraft will take part, Reuters reports and adds that the drills have been condemned as a provocation by Pyongyang.
About 12,000 U.S. service members will join South Korean troops and aircraft will be flown from eight military installations. According to the U.S. military, the drill is supposed to enhance readiness and operational capability and to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula.
Meanwhile, North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country called Trump ‘’insane’’ and said the drill would push the already acute situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war. North Korea also said that the U.S. was begging for nuclear war by staging an extremely dangerous nuclear gamble on the peninsula.
At the same time, Russian Defense Ministry announced that its marines will go on a live-fire drill in Russia’s regions which border North Korea. Newsweek reports that about one thousand naval infantry from Russia’s Pacific Ocean Fleet have been charged with mastering land warfare vehicles in Kamchatka and Primorye. The Russian Ministry stated that the marines in Kamchatka will practice driving armored personnel carriers and the marines in Primorye have begun practicing combat with handheld arms.
Russian marines practiced landing in Primorye and that was one of the many operations since the peak in North Korea’s nuclear tests this year. Russian paratroopers practiced jumps, the air force practiced bombing abilities and the navy hosted joint drills with Indian forces.
