DOJ to Permit House Intelligence Committee to Interview FBI Employee Tied to Trump Dossier

The Department of Justice will allow the House Intelligence Committee to interview an employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who was thought to have been the main contact of the former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele who compiled the ‘’Trump dossier,’’ which is full of allegations about President Donald Trump’s connections to Russia, reports CNN citing a department spokesperson. The interview is a product of a month-long negotiation.

Previously, Fox News reported that the House Intel Committee was seeking contempt citations against the DOJ and the FBI over the investigation into the dossier. Shortly after the report, Trump wrote on Twitter that the FBI and the DOJ should release documents pertaining to the probe.

“The House of Representatives seeks contempt citations(?) against the JusticeDepartment and the FBI for withholding key documents and an FBI witness which could shed light on surveillance of associates of Donald Trump. Big stuff. Deep State. Give this information NOW!” Trump wrote, referencing the Fox News report.

Devin Nunes, the Chairman of House Intelligence Committee, had accused the DOJ of being disingenuous because it hadn’t complied with their subpoena demands, but DOJ spokesperson Sarah Isgur Flores said that they did not agree with that characterization and would continue working with congressional committees to provide the information they requested consistent with their national security responsibilities, The Hill informs.

“The Department has already provided members of [the House Intelligence Committee] and House leadership with several hundred pages of classified documents and multiple briefings – including, for example, clear answers as to whether any FBI payments were made to a source in question-related to the dossier – and has more recently cleared key witnesses they have requested to testify, including Mr. McCabe, Mr. [Peter] Strzok, and the alleged handler in question,” Flores told CNN.

Steele compiled the dossier during the presidential campaign last year. The dossier was partly funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee, and Trump has said that it is fake.
