A House Intelligence Committee has issued a subpoena to a New York comedian, Randy Credico, who is to appear before it as part of an ongoing investigation into Russian interference with last year’s presidential election. The comedian will likely be asked questions relating to his role as a go-between for an ally of President Donald Trump and WikiLeaks. Credico is expected to testify before the committee on December 15.
Credico, who was also a radio show host, interviewed the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange on multiple occasions in the past few years. Some U.S. officials believe Assange is a pawn of Russian president Vladimir Putin. During the 2016 election, WikiLeaks released a number of Hillary Clinton’s emails which are believed to have been stolen by Russian hackers to tilt the election in favor of Trump.
Former Trump advisor Roger Stone has also been interviewed by Credico, but during his appearance before the House Intelligence Committee which took place this September, he denied Trump’s associates colluded with Russia during the election. Stone also declined to reveal the identity of the “opinion journalist” who acted as an intermediary between his and Assange. However, he later unwillingly identified the journalist.
What was of greatest interest to the committee were predictions made by Stone that the emails would be published and the extent of damage they would do on Clinton’s campaign. According to ABC News, Credico refused to discuss the matter.
“I don’t have much to say. I’m a journalist. I have a radio show. I’m not at liberty to talk about it,” he said. However, he maintained the committee’s investigators have hidden motives in requesting to meet with him.
“This is about chilling WikiLeaks and that starts with intimidating anyone who has met with Julian [Assange],” Credico continued.
