New Documents Reveal Previously Unreported Contact between Trump and Russians during Election Campaign

New documents reveal that during the presidential election campaign in the U.S., the Trump Organization reportedly had two more previously unreported contacts involving Russia. The documents are now submitted to investigators. The Washington Post reported that the documents show that associates of Donald Trump’s company were in contact with Russian officials last year.

These contacts include contact between Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen and Felix Sater, a Russian-born real estate developer and his business associate. They talked about whether Cohen would travel to Russia to attend an economic conference where the Russian President Vladimir Putin would also be. That was not the first contact between Sater and Cohen and Trump. They had been working on an intended deal to build a Trump tower in Moscow.

The Russian said that Cohen should go in St. Petersburg for the International Economic Forum. He added that there is a possibility for him to meet Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and maybe Putin. Cohen did not go to Russia, but the conference had been a subject of his emails exchanged with Sater several weeks prior to the Republican National Convention, where Trump was officially nominated as a presidential candidate.

“I did not accept this invitation. I have never been to Russia,” Cohen said for The Post.

There is also another contact between Trump’s business and Russia. Namely, there is another email exchange including Cohen. He received an email from a company founded by a Russia billionaire about a building project in Moscow. Cohen rejected this offer too.

“Like any other international real estate brand, it is not uncommon for third party developers to submit proposals for potential real estate projects all over the world,” Cohen said for The Post.

He explained that only a very small percentage of these proposals are ever pursued. All of this is turned over to the congressional investigators who are looking into Russia’s alleged attempt to interfere with the elections in the U.S. The documents show that some of Trump’s business associates were contacted from Russian figures last year. The Trump Organization turned the documents over in August. Cohen said he will cooperate with the authorities.

In July 2016 Trump tweeted that he has no investments in Russia, but the documents reveal that there were discussions about that with the Russians.
