Attorney General Jeff Sessions will hold news briefing Tuesday morning on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, amid increasing pressure over President Donald Trump’s decision on whether to end the Obama-era program, The Hill reports.
The White House said that an announcement would be made Tuesday as Trump contemplated to scrap the 2012 program, which delays deportation for those brought to the U.S. illegally as children who applied for work visas.
Several news outlets reported Sunday that Trump was had decided to end the program with a six-month delay, which would allow Congress an opportunity to pass legislation to protect the hundreds of thousands of immigrations impacted by the decision.
The expected move would up the stakes for lawmakers to act, after a series of Republicans critical of the Obama administration program said that Congress should work on the issue.
Texas and a number of states threatened to sue over DACA unlessTrump moved to end the program by Tuesday. Sessions had previously declined to say whether he would prepare a defense of the program in court.
