Minnesota police have arrested on Saturday five people- three 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old males – in connection with the fatal shooting the previous night at Minnesota’s Mall of America, the largest shopping center in the US, that have taken the life of a 19-year-old.
Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said that the suspects were arrested after the Bloomington Police Department SWAT team executed a search warrant conducting a raid at 8:40 a.m. at a house in the city.
Hodges noted that investigators are fairly confident the shooter is one of the arrested adults
According to Hodges, the suspects were expected to be charged with second-degree murder and the police are now in a process of determining if another shooter was involved in the incident on Friday evening that left one person dead and another grazed and sent the Mall of America into lockdown.
According to FOX 9, the killed victim is being described as a 19-year-old African American male that was shot in an altercation involving all five arrested people which lead to one of them firing a gun several times at the 19-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene despite first responders’ attempts to save him.
Investigators believe the shooting might have been related to a long-standing feud between two groups although Hodges underscored that a motive hasn’t been determined yet.
Bodycam footage the prosecutors have released shows a suspect opening fire at a La Habra Police Department officer.
Tweeting that the violence at MOA on Friday night is absolutely unacceptable, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said on Saturday that his office was working with local officials to provide support and resources.
The 30-year-old giant shopping complex situated about 10 miles south of downtown Minneapolis, boasts more than 500 stores, more than 50 dining options, dozens of attractions, and two hotels and is a highly popular tourist destination in the Midwest.
