The Republican Party should stop underestimating President Joe Biden, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned, stressing that GOP opposition to Biden has caused the party to minimize the success of the president and his party.
Though blasting Biden’s policies, Gingrich – who was House speaker from 1995 to 1999- said that despite Democrats holding narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, Biden has been able to score major legislative during his first two years in office whereas Democrats had been able to pass radical bills.
Ex-GOP speaker, who represented a slice of suburban Atlanta in the US House of Representatives from 1979 to 1999, has warned that Republicans were essentially prevented from fully judging Biden’s record due to its conservative “hostility” toward him.
He wrote on his website that Republicans dislike Biden and the Biden administration so much that they pettily focus on the US President’s speaking difficulties and other personal flaws and are blind to just how effective the Democrat Biden has been meanwhile on his terms.
Gingrich’s comments come in the aftermath of the midterm elections during which Democrats massively outperformed most political expectations, significantly curtailing losses in the House and retaining their Senate majority.
Gingrich underscored that he deeply opposes Biden’s policies – which are clearly weakening the United States as a country and strengthening its enemies – like virtually all conservatives and Republicans and opposes the Democrats’ woke policies which are undermining and threatening to destroy the American culture.
The Republican Party under Gingrich’s watch took back the House after 40 years in the minority in the 1994 midterms – in what is widely known as the Republican Revolution- and managed to recapture a Senate majority for the first time since relinquishing control in 1987.
