According to a new CBS News-YouGov poll published on Sunday, nearly 8 in 10 American voters describe the current state of affairs in the United States as “out of control”, The Hill reports.
A total of 79 percent of voters believe things in the country are out of control while only 21 percent of those surveyed believe affairs are under control, the poll found.
According to the poll, 73 percent of those surveyed said things are going badly in the country when asked how they feel about the state of the US today, while 36% of respondents said things are going well.
The poll results show serious division along political party lines with only 12 percent of registered Republicans and 18 percent of independents believing that things are going well in the country compared to significantly more optimistic 48 percent of registered Democratic respondents.
Things don’t look much better for President Joe Biden too, since when it comes to his work, only 44% of those surveyed approve of the job he is doing as president while 56 percent of respondents disapprove of the job he is doing as president.
The poll shows that the biggest concern for sixty-three percent of Democrats in the poll is a functioning democracy while 21% of the respondents said their biggest concern is a strong economy.
On the other side of the political spectrum, 29 percent of registered Republican respondents said a functioning democracy is their biggest concern heading into the election, while 70 percent of registered Republican respondents said that a stronger economy is their biggest concern.
The new CBS News-YouGov poll, which comes about a week before midterm elections that, along with crucial governor races across the country, will decide control of the House and Senate, forecast that the Democrats will net at least 207 seats in the House chamber in the midterm election compared to 228 seats for the Republicans.
Conducted from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28, with a total of 2,119 respondents participating in the survey, the CBS News-YouGov poll’s margin of error was 2.4 percentage points.
