A new Reuters-Ipsos opinion poll, which has a credibility interval of 4 percentage points, found on Tuesday that President Joe Biden’s approval ratings is at its highest point – standing at 41 percent – since June.
While Biden’s approval ratings among the Republicans remained steady at 12 percent, his popularity among the Democrats is slightly up – 78 percent of those Democrats surveyed during the two-day poll, voiced support for Biden, compared to 69 percent in early July.
Amid the chaotic withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan, President Biden’s approval rating steadily declined since August 2021, when the president’s poll numbers first dropped below 50 percent approval and reached the lowest – 36 percent – in May as he faced lingering criticism over inflation, and, in particular, the cost of gas.
The latest two-day Reuters-Ipsos poll that has surveyed 1,005 adults shows that Biden’s polling numbers slowly climbed from last week when his ratings stood at 40 percent, which marked the president’s highest approval rating in two months.
That increase was partially fueled by the increasing number of Democrats approving of Biden’s job performance, which rose to 78 percent.
President Biden has recently been put on an upward trajectory after the successful drone strike that killed al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, the passage of a climate, health care, and tax package, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
He provided billions of dollars to the domestic semiconductor industry by successfully pushing for Congress to pass the CHIPS and helped expand health care for veterans exposed to toxins and burn pits while serving with the Science Act and the Honoring Our PACT Act.
The most recent uptick in popularity comes on the heels of a few other victories, such as the dropping gas prices and a blockbuster legislative win.
