There has been another mass shooting in America. A gunman carrying an assault-style rifle and a handgun killed four people and injured an unknown amount of people in a medical building on a hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
It marks sadly the latest in a series of mass shootings across the United States.
Gun violence across the nation has included recently the elementary school mass shooting in Texas, which killed 19 children and two teachers. It also included a mass shooting of 10 people in Buffalo, New York, in a racist attack in a supermarket.
There were also many mass shootings across the last holiday weekend’s Memorial Day Weekend. It currently remains unclear what prompted the mass shooting in Tulsa.
The aftermath was described as a “catastrophic scene.” The gunman was found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot. He opened fire on the second floor of a medical building within the campus of the Sant Francis Hospital.
The gunman purchased an assault-style weapon, an AR-15, that very same day, according to federal sources who were briefed not the investigation. The handgun had also been purchased this week.
The two firearms, a semiautomatic rifle, and a semiautomatic pistol were both at the scene. The Tulsa police deputy chief, Eric Dalgleish, said that it appeared both weapons were fired at the scene.
There have been more than 200 mass shootings since January of this year alone. This shooting marked the 233rd mass shooting this year. A mass shooting is defined as a shooting that injures or kills four or more people, not including the shooter.
The public in the U.S. has been calling for more gun reform, asking what will be enough in order to finally determine that reform needs to occur. But Republicans are standing firm against any kind of gun reform, leaving people skeptical that it will ever be possible.
