WhatsApp Will Let You Hide ‘Last Seen’ Status from Specific Contacts

Do you want to hide “last seen” statuses from certain contracts? WhatsApp may finally allow this feature.

The extremely popular global messaging app, now owned by the Facebook mega-giant Meta, has begun beta testing a feature to hide the “last seen” status from certain contacts.

“Last seen” allows other users on WhatsApp to see when someone quite literally was last seen on the app, meaning it shows when someone last opened the messaging app. It, therefore, shows in a way if someone opened your message and didn’t respond.

You can currently hide your “last seen” from all people on the app. But this means you cannot see anyone else’s seen status.

There is also an option to only allow your direct contacts to see your “last seen,” but you cannot choose if certain people should not be able to see it. Privacy settings on WhatsApp, therefore, include the three options of “everyone,” “my contacts,” and “nobody.”

This new feature will change this. It will add a fourth choice, labeled, “my contacts except…”. This new option of allowing some, but not specifics, will make it possible to block people from seeing when you were last seen online from messaging.

Both Apple iOS products, as well as Android products, currently have access to the beta mode option for this fourth privacy setting, but it has not yet been released to everyone.

Whatsapp used to be an independently owned application. Then, Facebook bought it. Last year, the application took a step of updating terms of use and privacy, which seemed mundane, but actually included worldwide backlash.

This is because it included highlighting certain policies of WhatsApp like sharing data with Facebook. But rather than changing the policy, it initially moved the date of the deadline to accept the data. And if you didn’t, the app because unusable.
