President Biden’s commitment to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court has been slammed as offensive by the GOP Senator Ted Cruz, who argued that this way the president is conveying a message to the other Americans that they’re ineligible.
Speaking on his podcast “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” Sen. Cruz explained that by showing willingness at the beginning to promise to nominate a Black woman despite the fact that the Black community is only representing six percent of the US population, Biden is telling 94% of the Americans that he doesn’t give a damn about them.
The US Census Bureau’s data for 2019 shows that Black women made up 7% of the US population in.
Cruz added that Biden didn’t even pretend to say that he’s going to put the best jurist on the court and that he has chosen a Black woman after looking at a number of qualified people but just showed up and it was as if he said $tough luck if you’re a white guy or white woman since you don’t qualify– which is actually an insult to Black women.
Reaffirming a campaign pledge, Biden announced that he plans to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court last week, following Justice Stephen Breyer’s announcement of retirement.
The White House has also confirmed that President Biden is considering potential nominees, but GOP Sen. Roger Wicker commented that Biden’s nominee will be a beneficiary of affirmative action and would somehow be a conflict related to affirmative action cases currently before the justices.
In response to Wicker’s comments, the White House said that the Mississippi Republican had no issue whatsoever when former President Trump announced his plans nominate a woman to the Supreme Court to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
