Though he does not believe Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will run against him, former President Donald Trump said in an interview with Yahoo Finance Live that he’d beat him if they face each other in a 2024 primary.
Trump pointed that he’d beat DeSantis, an ardent Trump supporter, like he would beat everyone else anyone in his path, but said he doesn’t think he would face DeSantis in 2024 because, like most people, he would drop out rather than facing him.
He once again fueled the speculation regarding who will lead the GOP ticket in 2024 when the Republicans will try to take back the White House.
DeSantis received high marks on the July straw poll for the 2024 GOP presidential nominee taken at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) which also confirmed Trump’s confidence since he held a commanding lead with 70% saying they would vote for him in the Republican primary compared to DeSantis who came second with 21%.
Yet, DeSantis, who is up for reelection in 2022, led the pack with 68% of the vote when polling the 2024 Republican primary ballot without Trump.
After confirming he will run for governor again next year, DeSantis told Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Thursday that he not considering anything beyond doing his job.
Although Trump has been publicly flirting with the idea of running for the White House in 2024 since losing the last election, he still hasn’t confirmed yet any concrete plans.
Quinnipiac University poll showed in August that 60% of American adults felt that it would not be good for the United States if Trump were to run for president in 2024.
