The employment and getting a contract with the US Embassy for the Russian nationals was directly linked, as a rule, with them obtaining either a green card or US citizenship and they’re seeing it as an opportunity, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed Tuesday.
She explained that in this process, there was essentially a kind of “conversion” of a Russian citizen into a citizen of their country.
Zakharova pointed to the different approaches to the make-up of the diplomatic staff and the staff of diplomatic agencies in general that Russia and Western countries have, explaining that Russia sends its diplomats and staff to work abroad while Western countries stick to hiring Russian citizens.
She has earlier addressed an issue in the same context, confirming in her Telegram channel that Russian blogger Alexey Navalny was sponsored by the staff of foreign embassies in Russia and that majority of such contributions were made through US and German diplomatic missions.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman has also described a scheme in which foreign diplomatic missions to Russia were hiring Russian nationals and paying them money which they later transferred to corresponding agencies, nothing it’s up to civil activists and journalist to establish if foreign governments ‘invented’ this form of money transfer specially for Navalny.
She underlined she can imagine the hysteria that would be created in the Western media if, for example, Russian diplomatic missions’ employees transferred money to Republicans in the US, reminding that dozens Russian diplomats were expelled from the US over unsubstantiated accusations of interference in the 2016 electoral process.
Meanwhile, TASS reported that the US administration has introduced on September 7 its second round of sanctions against Russia over its alleged involvement in the incident with blogger Alexey Navalny.
Russia had allegedly violated the CBW Act of 1991, which has become the legal base for the restrictions on the permanent imports of certain Russian firearms which envisions the new and pending permit applications for import of firearms and ammunition manufactured/ located in Russia to be subject to a policy of denial.
In addition, the US Department of Commerce also introduced new export restrictions against Russia on nuclear and missile-related goods and technology that will remain in place for a minimum of 12 months.
The sanctions around Navalny situation- that replicate those related to the Skripal affair- the poisoning of Sergey Skripal and his daughter- may be lifted if Moscow fulfills a number of requirements giving reliable assurances not to use chemical weapons in violation of international law, allowing international inspectors to verify those assurances and making restitution to Navalny.
