Trump Jr. Urges Tester, Manchin to Dispute Biden’s Nominee for ATF

Donald Trump Jr. is urging voters to oppose President Joe Biden’s nominee to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, including Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and John Tester, The Hill reports.

Biden’s ATF candidate, David Chipman, “worked aggressively for the anti-gun lobby,” according to the former president’s eldest son, who spoke at a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event in Dallas on Friday.

Due to his prior work as a policy consultant for the firearm legislation group Giffords, Chipman, who worked as an ATF special agent for 25 years, has faced resistance from gun rights groups.

Chipman’s appointment as ATF director, Trump said Friday, would “violate your Second Amendment rights.”

Chipman stated during his confirmation hearing in late May that while he intends to stick to current ATF rules, he favors banning the AR-15 rifle, which he “was issued on ATF’s swat squad” and describes as “a extremely dangerous weapon.”

“As a proud gun owner, Sen. Tester believes ATF needs a strong leader to support the agency’s law enforcement mission,” Tester spokeswoman Sarah Feldman said in a comment for Fox News this week, while neither Manchin nor Tester has given a concrete plan on how they decide to vote on Chipman’s candidacy.
