Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla is in the focus of the Department of Justice who’s investigating him for obstruction of justice as a latest development in a sex trafficking probe into Joel Greenberg, an associate of Gaetz and former Seminole County official that may also implicate the congressman, Fox News reports.
Gaetz has not been charged and denies all allegations in the case, but Greenberg faces 12 years in prison after he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors to plead guilty to six federal charges.
The broad investigation involves allegations that Gaetz and Greenberg paid underage girls and escorts for sex, yet Gaetz denies all allegations that he broke the law claiming it’s a lie that he traveled across state lines with a 17-year-old girl for sex.
That investigation includes potential obstruction of justice regarding citing reports that Gaetz was patched into a call between a woman who is a witness in the probe and an ex-girlfriend of Gaetz. Prosecutors are also investigating if Gaetz tried to secure government jobs for some of the women .
Neither Gaetz’s office nor the Department of Justice commented immediately.
