Nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, stood in defense of this weeks CDC’s new guidelines which say that vaccinated people that received two doses of the Pfizer and Moderna jabs and the one dose from Johnson and Johnson should not wear masks while outside or in small groups of other fully vaccinated people, Fox News reported.
The CDC made an update to its policy on Thursday, claiming that it is now safe for fully vaccinated US residents to stop social distancing and visit places without using a mask covers. This policy stops an almost one year of mandatory masks in many parts in the country. However, Hawaii and Massachusetts, as well as other states claimed that they will proceed with the previous guidelines.
In an interview with CBS, Fauci said that the reason behind this CDC decision is scientific evolution, but also comes as an encouragement for people who are still not vaccinated, to do so.
But less than two months ago, the CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky was in another state of mind where she warned of the negative consequences of not wearing face coverings, when the COVID-19 cases started rising once again.
For some, the new directives were very confusing and might came as a burden to essential workers who would have to police records of vaccination. On the other hand, some asked whether this move is aimed as an incentive for people to get vaccinated. Dr. Fauci stated that the CDC would timely announce any further specific guidelines as well as clarifications for the current ones in the coming weeks.
About 47 percent of the adult population in the United States is now vaccinated, citing data published by the CDC. Around 60 percent has only received one dose. The vaccination rate is set to increase after the Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer jab for children aged 12 and 15.
