The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will boycott the traditional White House Eid celebration on Sunday, to commemorate the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, in protest at the Biden administration’s support for Israel as it fends off Hamas-fired rockets and retaliates with airstrikes in Gaza, Politico says.
Biden told reporters Israel has a right to defend itself after he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, assuring him of U.S support. The two leaders also talked Saturday amid escalating violence between Israeli and Palestinian forces.
CAIR said it is incredibly disappointed and deeply disturbed by the administration’s position in response to the violence and joins other American Muslim organizations, like American Muslims for Palestine, in boycotting President Biden’s Eid celebration.
CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said that president Biden has the political power and moral authority to stop the injustices, urging him to stand on the side of the victims and not the victimizer.
CAIR pointed that they cannot in celebrate Eid with the Biden Administration while it literally aids, abets and justifies the Israeli apartheid government’s indiscriminate bombing of innocent men, women and children in Gaza.
