Biden to Highlight Immigration Policy Meeting with ‘Dreamers’ in the Oval Office

President Joe Biden plans an Oval Office meeting Friday with six recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to discuss their experiences during the pandemic in an effort to signals his immigration reform plan remains a priority, according to The Washington Post.

White House said Biden’s meeting with the so called Dreamers will underscore his desire for Congress to pass the American Dream and Promise Act, which would grant citizenship to an estimated 2.7 million while pushing his plan to extend citizenship to more than 11 million undocumented immigrants.

The Obama-era DACA program allowed undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children to remain in the country under certain conditions.

The legislation was passed by the House in March, but has stalled in the Senate. Biden urged lawmakers last month to tackle immigration reform, saying it was time to “end our exhausting war over immigration.”
