The Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has blamed the latest incident in the Persian Gulf on Washington, accusing its warships of unprofessional behavior and shooting, Western media outlets reported.
The IRGC broke the silence on the incident that took place on Monday, giving its account of the duel between the Iranian armed boats and the US Coast Guard “Maui”.
According to the IRGC, the group of US warships behaved unprofessionally, having helicopters in the area, launching rockets and firing aimlessly and provocatively. “It would be better for the Americans to avoid unprofessional behavior and not endanger the safety of the Persian Gulf by respecting the rules and regulations of the sea,” the IRGC said in a statement, reported by Iranian media.
The IRGC report on the incident effectively reflects the Pentagon’s stand on the Gulf dispute. On Monday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby accused Iranian armed boats of acting too aggressively and approaching the US naval group at high speed.
According to Kirby, the Iranian speedboats were performing unprofessional maneuvers, without respecting the safety of the American forces, something which is required by international law.
