Sarah Godlewski Entering Wisconsin Senate Race

Sarah Godlewski, the Wisconsin state Treasurer announced Wednesday that she will enter the race for the Senate, joining two other Democrats in the competition to take on Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) in 2022, informed The Hill.

“People say we can’t fix the Senate, but I don’t buy that. They say don’t even try to take on Ron Johnson. But I say we have to. Every time someone’s told me what I can’t do, I’ve shown them what I can do,” said Godlewsky in a video message announcing her candidacy.

Godlewsky joined Milwaukee Bucks Executive Alex Lasry and Outagamie County Executive and former majority leader in the state Assembly Tom Nelson, as a third Democrat to enter the Senate race in Wisconsin. Nelson was the first to announce his candidacy last fall and Lasry announced his in February.

Godlewsky is expected to start the first leg of her campaign next week and begin touring Wisconsin. She has been expected to enter the Senate race for several months.

Johnson hasn’t said yet if he will run for third term in the Senate, but many Wisconsin Republicans believe that he is preparing for reelection bid and he has the support from former President Donald Trump. The Wisconsin Senate seat is one of the top targets for Democrats in the 2022 midterms.

Even though Johnson is not certain about his plans for reelection in 2022, Democrats are determined to run against the Republican incumbent and top ally of former President Trump.

“Ron Johnson has completely lost touch with Wisconsin and reality, spreading conspiracy theories, denying climate change, and obstructing economic relief. It’s time to take a different path in Washington,” said Godlewski in a statement Wednesday.
