Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) took his confrontation with the leading infectious diseases expert Antony Fauci to the level of escalation, calling Fauci a “petty tyrant” for suggesting to the citizens that are vaccinated against the coronavirus not to eat or drink indoors, reported The Hill.
“Fauci continues to ignore 100 years of vaccine science. His only real theme is ‘do what I say’ even when it makes no sense,” wrote Paul on Twitter Monday.
All American citizens who have been vaccinated against or have recovered from the coronavirus should “go about your life,” said Paul. “Eat, drink, work, open the schools. Enough with the petty tyrants.”
During an appearance on MSNBC Sunday evening, Fauci said that it was “still not OK” for people who have been vaccinated to eat or drink in restaurants or at other indoor businesses.
“For simple reason that the level of infection, the dynamic of infection in the community are still really disturbingly high. Like just yesterday there were close to 80,000 new infections and we’ve been hanging around 60, 75,000,” said Fauci.
Even if you are vaccinated, “please remember that you still have to be careful and not get involved in crowded situations, particularly indoors where people are not wearing masks,” he added.
Around 40 percent of the adult Americans have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, said the officials on the White House coronavirus task force.
Few states have completely lifted the restriction, some have loosened them and most states in the country have kept the capacity limits on indoor businesses as the vaccine is distributed and administrated.
Paul and Fauci had several confrontations on topics related to the coronavirus pandemic, including the accuracy of coronavirus data and the effectiveness of masks.
“You’re telling everyone to wear a mask. If we’re not spreading the infection, isn’t it just theater? You have vaccine and you’re wearing two masks, isn’t that theater,” Paul asked Fauci during congressional hearing in March.
