BIDEN JOB APPROVAL: AVERAGE 55%

RON’S COMMENT: Today’s average is based on seven polls, ranging from 49% (Quinnipiac, Rasmussen) to 61% (The Hill). Without these extremes it would be 56%…. Biden’s disapproval rating averages 37% today (-1 since Thursday)….From the Quinnipiac poll on Biden’s personal traits:
- 60% say he cares about average Americans, 36% say he doesn’t
- 58% say he is level headed, 36% say he isn’t
- 54% say he has good leadership skills, 39% say he doesn’t
- 53% say he is honest, 39% say he isn’t

RON’S COMMENT: Joe Biden’s favorable rating is 92% among Democrats, 18% among Republicans, 48% among independents, 44% among whites and 68% among nonwhites…. Throughout today’s newsletter we find that Democrats overwhelmingly back Biden.
HILL JOB RATINGS

RON’S COMMENT: Time for Hill Republicans to sound the alarm? The standing of the GOP in Congress is terribly negative. Democrats are under water as well, but do much better than their rivals…. Democrats like their leaders: Schumer gets 66% approval among fellow Democrats and Pelosi gets 82% approval among fellow Democrats…. Republicans have more doubts about their leaders: McCarthy receives 47% approval among fellow Republicans and McConnell receives 31% among fellow partisans.
BIDEN ON THE PANDEMIC

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling the response to the coronavirus?
Approve: 61%
Disapprove: 29%
RON’S COMMENT: Biden’s rating on the pandemic is strong: 93% of Democrats, 59% of independents and 33% of Republicans approve of his handling of the issue. Among whites, there is a big difference by education level: 69% with college degrees approve, while only 49% without college degrees do.
BIDEN’S RELIEF PACKAGE

As you may know, the Biden administration has proposed a $1.9 trillion stimulus relief bill in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Do you support or oppose this bill?
Support: 68%
Oppose: 24%
RON’S COMMENT: 97% of Democrats, 68% of independents and 37% of Republicans support Biden’s package. The poll also finds that 78% support $1,400 stimulus payments and 61% support the $15 minimum wage.
NEWSOM IN CALIFORNIA

RECALL OF GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM (D):
Would vote to RECALL Newsom: 36%
Would vote to KEEP Newsom: 45%
Undecided: 19%
RON’S COMMENT: This Berkeley/IGS poll shows that more voters oppose the recall than support it, but a high 19% are undecided. The region that is most likely to vote to recall the Democratic governor is Orange County (45%) and the region least likely is the San Francisco Bay area (26%)…. In the 2018 election for governor, Newsom’s Republican opponent received 38% of the vote statewide, slightly more than the percentage that now supports recall.

Berkeley/IGS Poll
Approve: 46%
Disapprove: 48%
RON’S COMMENT: Dueling polls––PPIC shows a majority of voters approve of Newsom, but Berkeley/IGS has him in net negative territory. The polls used different methodologies; PPIC is conducted by phone and Berkeley is done online…. In the PPIC poll, 71% of Democrats, 46% of independents and 16% of Republicans approve of the way Democratic Gov. Newsom is handling his job as governor.
