TRUMP JOB APPROVAL: AVERAGE 44%

RON’S COMMENT: Despite the impeachment controversy, President Trump’s job rating holds steady. Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 40% (Politico, Quinnipiac) to 52% (Rasmussen). Without these extremes, it would still be 44%….Trump’s disapproval rating averages 53% today (same as yesterday), which is 9 points higher than his approval rating.

RON’S COMMENT: This was the last poll of California Democrats taken while Harris was still in the race. It shows her running fifth in her home state…. When Harris’ votes are distributed, the trial heat shifts to Sanders 25%, Warren 24%, Biden 17% and Buttigieg 13%. Interestingly, Biden picks up more from Harris’ departure than any other candidate. The California primary is March 3.
TRUMP VS. GENERIC DEMOCRAT

If the election for president were held today with Donald Trump as the Republican running against a Democratic Party candidate, who would you vote for?
Democratic candidate: 48% (-1 from two weeks ago)
Trump: 42% (+2 from two weeks ago)

RON’S COMMENT: The “generic” Democrat is now ahead by 6 points, two weeks ago it was 9 points.
OBAMACARE

Do you generally approve or disapprove of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Obama that restructured the U.S. healthcare system?
Approve: 50%
Disapprove: 48%
RON’S COMMENT: 84% of Democrats, 53% of independents and 11% of Republicans approve of Obamacare. There has been little movement, with attitudes almost identical to last year.
BANNING OFFENSIVE SPEECH

TWEEN AND TEEN MEDIA USAGE
Among 8 to 18-year-olds nationwide
Here are the findings of a recent Common Sense Census survey of 8 to 18-year-olds on media usage:
- Tweens (8 to 12-year-olds) spend just under 4.44 hours on entertainment screen media time per day. Teens (13 to 18-year-olds) average 7:22 of entertainment screen time per day.
- Online video consumption has nearly doubled for youngsters over the past four years. Now, 56% of tweens and 69% of teens watch online video every day.
- By age 11, 53% of youngsters have their own smartphone. By age 12, it’s 69%.
- Youngsters from high income households (+$100K/year) average less screen time than those from lower income households (less than $35K/year). The difference in average daily screen media use is 3:59 hours vs. 5:49 hours for tweens and 6:49 hours vs. 8:32 hours for teens.
- Teens spend 1:11 a day on social media, which has remained about the same since 2015.
- Among tweens, 53% of all screen use is devoted to TV or videos and 31% to gaming. Among teens, 39% of screen use is devoted to watching TV or videos, 22% to gaming and 16% to social media.
- 66% of tweens and 51% of teens read for fun at least once a week. 22% of tweens and 32% of teens read for fun less than once a month.
- 73% of youngsters from lower income households have access to a computer at home, compared to 94% of those in higher income households. Similarly, 64% of teens in higher-income households say they use a computer for homework every day, compared to 51% of teens in lower income households.
