Senator Rand Paul informed on Monday that he will limit his activities in August to recover from a partial lung removal intervention afer he was attacked by a neighboor in 2017.
“Unfortunately, I will have to limit my August activities. Part of my lung damaged by the 2017 assault had to be removed by surgery this weekend. The doctors, nurses, & staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center were great. I should be able to return to the Senate in September,” Paul tweeted Monday, as reported by The Hill.
Paul was assaulted at his home in Bowling Green in 2017 by his neighbor after a conflict over yard work. The neighbor, Rene Boucher, reportedly charged and tackled Paul after becoming upset over the senator stacking brush on his own lawn — but near Boucher’s.
The attack broke several of Paul’s ribs, and in January Paul was awarded more than $500,000 in damages stemming from the attack.
Kentucky’s other senator, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, is also recovering at home after fracturing his shoulder.
McConnell spokesperson David Popp said Sunday the senator injured himself tripping at home on his patio, and is working from home after being treated.
