Megan Rapinoe, the U.S. women’s soccer superstar, denied an invitation to the White House. After that, she was invited by Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to visit Congress as she quickly accepted.
Ocasio Cortez used Twitter to share the news as she wrote:
“It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe and the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like.”
On Friday, Rapinoe tweeted: “Consider it done.’’
Rapinoe denied the possibility of visiting the White House after the feud between her and President Trump occurred.
She had an interview at the beginning of this week in which she said: “Not going to the f—ing White House’’ if the United States women’s national team wins the World Cup.”
President Trump instantly replied by writing on Twitter that “leagues and teams love coming to the White House’’ and that he is a big fan of the American team and Women’s Soccer, adding that she should first win before she says, “Finish the job!’’
“We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose,’’ Trump tweeted.
Rapinoe, the team’s co-captain, doubled down Thursday, saying she “stands by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House.’’ The U.S. women’s team defeated France 2-1 in Friday’s quarterfinal to advance in the World Cup. Rapinoe scored both of the team’s goals, The Hill informs.
