President Donald Trump has berated ex-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, blaming him for ‘treason’, before he took to Twitter to quote news anchor Sean Hannity, a TV host from Trump’s favored news outlet.
“Many in the deep state, well, they have other goals, as we report in our Hannity Watch on the biggest abuse of power corruption scandal in history and it’s much worse than we thought,” Hannity said in his opening remarks. “Look, for example, Andrew McCabe over the weekend admitting to plotting a bureaucratic coup when he was serving in the FBI before he was fired for lying and leaking some five or six times.”
Newsweek reports that the President quoted Hannity, with his own addition to the Fox News host’s words by placing government overthrow in parenthesis as an explanation for “plotting a coup.” Trump also added “treason!” to his post and tagged Hannity and the Fox News Channel.
Later in the show, Hannity spoke to Senator Lindsey Graham who has pushed to open an investigation into the FBI and the Justice Department over the allegations McCabe made in his interview.
“It’s one of the most significant moments in American history if it’s true,” Graham said of the allegations that McCabe and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein considered invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump.
“What I’ll do, oversite is part of my job. We do have checks and balances so that Congress will watch those who watch us. I’ll try to find out who was in these meetings and talk to all of ’em and figure out who is lying, ’cause somebody is lying’.”
