Heather Nauert a ‘Leading Contender’ to Replace Haley as UN Ambassador, Sources Say

Heather Nauert, a spokesperson for the State Department is considered as a “leading contender” to assume the vacant position as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, after Nikki Haley submitted her resignation, Fox News informed.

Nauert held a meeting with President Trump at the Oval Office, but it is still not revealed whether they discussed anything related to this topic. Other officials have also been named as potential candidate, including the Ambassador to France Jamie McCourt.

Nauert, who was also a former Fox News host, was appointed as the State Department spokesperson in April 2017. Earlier this year, she was also appointed as the undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs after the dismissal of Steve Goldstein from this position.

At a Nevada campaign rally Trump stated that he was interviewing five candidates to assume Haley’s position in the UN, three women and two men, and said that he was hoping to appoint someone “very quickly.”

Trump also stated that he would prefer to have a woman to assume the UN ambassador position.
