Biden Congratulates McCarthy for New House Speaker Role

Just after midnight on Saturday, President Joe Biden sent a message congratulating House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who had just been chosen, Fox News informed.

After nearly an hour, he was sworn in.

The American people expect their leaders to rule in a way that puts their needs above everything else, and that is what the politicians need to do right now, said Biden and the first lady in their congratulations to Kevin McCarthy on his election as Speaker of the House.

McCarthy won the House of Representatives election after several days of protracted debate that began on Tuesday and ended with a dramatic set of votes taken overnight on Friday and Saturday.

Voters made it plain that they expect Republicans to be ready to work with him as well after Biden stated that he is ready to collaborate with them when necessary. He said that it’s time to start that process now that the House of Representatives’ leadership has been chosen.

McCarthy briefly discussed his legislative priorities for the 118th session after being elected speaker. These included securing the southern border, cutting expenditure, and establishing a bipartisan committee on China.

In his congrats, Biden also mentioned his priorities.

The president claimed to have learnt that his strategy for creating an economy that is balanced and grows from the middle outward had led to the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years and the strongest job growth years ever in 2021 and 2022.

Additionally, Biden stated that when the nation works “together,” “deep things” are possible.

McCarthy received 216 of the 428 votes in the 15th and final vote, winning the speakership. Republicans made up all six of the voting members.

McCarthy was sworn in, and the House and all of its newly-elected members swiftly passed a resolution officially informing the president of his victory and opening the White House to contact.
