The victory of Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock over Republican Herschel Walker in the Georgia Senate runoff election, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday, provides the Biden administration “a little bit more breathing room,” Fox News informed.
The remarks were made in answer to a question from a reporter about potential adjustments to the Biden administration’s policy agenda and confirmation procedure in light of Warnock’s victory.
According to Jean-Pierre, this offers the Democrats’ legislative agenda a little more breathing room and the capacity to deliver for the American people.
The results of the midterm elections, she said, powerfully show that Americans support Vice President Biden’s plan.
Later, as the Biden administration considered the second half of the president’s term, a reporter prodded Jean-Pierre to clarify on what “additional breathing room” looked like.
The fact that President Biden was considering judicial nominees was downplayed by Jean-Pierre, who acted more evasively.
She added that the American people were quite clear about what they wanted to see and that she did not want to go ahead of what the president wants to do.
Tuesday’s runoff election in Georgia saw Warnock defeat Walker, giving Democrats an absolute majority in the Senate for the remainder of Biden’s tenure and ending a disappointing midterm election campaign for the GOP.
Democrats will hold a 51-49 Senate majority with Warnock’s second runoff victory in as many years, gaining one seat from the existing 50-50 split thanks to John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania. Despite this, there will be a divided government because Republicans narrowly flipped the House. More trifectas — places where one party holds the governorship and the two houses of the state legislature — are held by Republicans, who also hold the majority of governorships across the nation.
