NY man enters guilty plea over Jan 6 riot actions

For his acts on Jan 6, 2021, when a breach of the U.S. Capitol occurred, a New York man entered a guilty plea to a criminal charge today. His actions, together with those of other participants, caused a joint session of the US Congress to be called in order to determine and tally the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.

“Rafael Rondon, 25, of Watertown, New York, pleaded guilty in the District of Columbia to obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting in the obstruction of an official proceeding,” the Justice Department said.

Court records state that Rondon and his mother, Maryann Mooney-Rondon, walked inside Pelosi’s suite and a conference room, where they helped a guy steal a laptop.

On Jan 6, protesters who backed former President Trump stormed the Capitol in an effort to block Congress from officially announcing Joe Biden as the winner of the Electoral College.

According to The Hill, Mooney-Rondon, 56, is accused of participating in the Capitol riot and is currently awaiting trial on related counts. She has entered a not-guilty plea.

A Pennsylvania woman named Riley June Williams, 23 was detained by federal agents and formally accused of stealing Pelosi’s laptop during the Capitol incident last October.

Williams intended to sell Pelosi’s laptop to a buddy in Russia, according to a witness who described himself as Williams’s previous romantic partner.

Rondon, who was detained by authorities in October of last year and has since been charged with theft and other offenses associated with the Capitol disturbance, will likely be sentenced in March.

Rondon might receive a 20-year jail term.

According to the Justice Department, about 900 people have been detained across the country for charges connected to the Capitol hack.
