While in Arizona on Tuesday, President Biden gave an explanation for why he did not visit the border with Mexico, stating there were more crucial matters to attend to, Fox News informed.
While boarding Marine One to leave the White House on Tuesday, Biden offered the defense. Even though there is a continuing issue with record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the border each month, Biden has never been to the border during his time as president.
Republican border trips were criticized as “political stunts” by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre last month.
During the Biden presidency, illegal immigration to the United States reached historic highs. In October alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 230,000 border interactions, breaking the previous monthly high from September.
According to figures from September, the fiscal year 2022 ended with 2,378,944 migrant interactions, which is the most ever. That number does not include the 599,000 known “gotaways” that managed to elude capture during the same time period, according to Fox News, citing CBP sources.
The Biden administration has made repeated attempts to characterize border surges as an annual occurrence. While there has been a pattern of rising migration along the southern border each spring, the surges in 2021 and 2022 surpassed earlier years by a wide margin, and the pace continued to pick up throughout the year.
Vice President Harris had claimed the border is “closed,” urging migrants forcefully, “Do not come,” last year. Harris was chosen by US President Joe Biden to head the administration’s effort to address the border problem.
