GOP Won More Jewish Votes, US Midterm Exit Poll Shows

According to the results of a midterm election exit poll conducted Tuesday by Fox News, the Republican party increased its share of the national Jewish vote to a new high not seen in a generation.

The data after Tuesday’s election showed that 33% of US Jews polled voted Republican, which is three percent up from 30% in 2020 and nine percent up from 24% in 2016.

Republican Jewish Coalition national director Sam Markstein pointed out that the increased number of Jewish voters moving toward the GOP is a result of the fact that Republican candidates offer concrete solutions to the issues that matter to Jews.

Those included combating rising hate crime, joining the Jewish community in the fight against antisemitism, supporting US allies in Israel, reducing the skyrocketing costs of living, championing school choice, etc.

While the expected Republican ‘red wave’ didn’t happen, Markstein said Florida was one clear bright spot for GOP on election night that has seen a record-smashing level of Jewish support – 45% of the Jewish vote – helping Anna Paulina Luna to cleanly defeat Jewish Democrat Eric Lynn.

The most likely contributors to the margin of victory of GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis – who waltzed to reelection and would be a formidable contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024- is the growing number of Orthodox Jews in the state who tend to vote Republican.

However, the majority of American Jews (65 percent), both in New York and nationwide, skew heavily Democratic and liberal while 2% of the Jewish American electorate identified as “other.”

Despite winning between 85-95% in Hasidic Brooklyn neighborhoods in Borough Park and Williamsburg, where voter turnout averaged 50%, according to New York city polls, Republican candidate Rep. Lee Zeldin was ultimately defeated by Democratic incumbent challenger Gov. Kathy Hochul in New York’s hotly contested gubernatorial race.
