State election authorities report that Georgia voters broke the record for early voting in a midterm election, refuting assertions made by prominent Democrats that the state’s election laws would result in voter suppression, Fox News informed.
The early voting session in the Peach State finished Friday night with more than 2,288,889 votes cast. The first day of early voting was October 17.
Georgia had more votes cast before Tuesday’s election than 2.5 million when Early Voting and absentee ballots were added together. By Friday, county election offices had received more than 75% of the absentee ballots that had been cast.
In the state, a total of 2,504,956 votes have already been cast, falling barely shy of the 2.6 million required to win the 2020 Presidency.
According to a statement from Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Georgia voters turned out in nearly presidential-level proportions.
He went on to say that county election administrators addressed that request with the utmost professionalism.
They accomplished with ease while navigating a variety of obstacles.
Voter turnout during the Early Voting period was significantly higher than it was during the 2018 midterm elections, when 1.8 million Georgians cast ballots.
In comparison to the last day of early voting in 2020, the number of ballots cast in person on Friday was 6% higher.
The state of Georgia has experienced record voter turnout since early voting began three weeks ago, with the number of ballots cast nearly doubling from the first day of early voting in 2018.
After Democrats claimed that Georgia’s election integrity law, enacted by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp in April 2021, would make it more difficult for Georgians, particularly minorities, to cast a ballot, a record number of people turned out to vote.
The Election Integrity Act, according to President Joe Biden, is “Jim Crow 2.0.” The president referred to the statute as “Jim Crow in the 21st Century” in October of that year.
